Located in Sapa District, Lao Cai City, Sapa townlet is a well known resort that attracts lots of tourists nationwide to come and enjoy the beautiful scenery as well as discover the distinctive culture of ethnic minorities here.
At an altitude of 1,600m, Sapa has a temperate climate with four seasons in a day. The weather is like a cool spring in the morning, a sunny summer at noon, a little chilly autumn in the afternoon and a cold winter at night. Especially, snow sometimes falls down when the temperature drops below zero, which makes Sapa become one of rare snowy places in Vietnam.
There are many interesting spots in Sapa that is worth a try such as 200m-high Silver Waterfall, Rattan Bridge which is historical relic of ethnic groups, Heaven's Gate which is the highest peak of roads to view the Fansipan peak, Bamboo Forest, Ta Phin Cave or Ham Rong Mountain where various kinds of flowers planted, especially orchids of brilliant colors and fantastic shapes. Besides, it would be incomplete without mentioning Fansipan Mountain that is known as "the Roof of Indochina" with 3143m summit. The pyramid-shaped mountain covered with clouds all year around and the home of numerous fauna and flora species is an ideal destination for those who love exploring and conquering the highest peak.
Visiting Sapa can be a terrific chance to learn more about the traditional customs of ethnic groups as it is the living place of black H'Mong, Red Dao, Tay, Giay, Xa Pho, Kinh and Hoa people. One of the distinctive culture features that has much impressed many tourists is market session taking place from Saturday evening to Sunday morning every week with the participation of many young locals in colorful costumes to meet, date and join exciting activities.
