Sa Pa townlet is situated 38km from Lao Cai Province and 376km from Ha Noi City. From Hanoi, tourists can go to Lao Cai by cars or trains. It takes 7 hours to travel by cars. However, trains are preferable as rough roads to Lao Cai, especially in the rainy season, are quite inconvenient for cars to go. There are Ha Noi-Lao Cai trains run from 19h to 22h30 every night. Air conditioners and beds are equipped inside some trains to serve tourists. It takes about 8 and a half hour to reach Lao Cai station. Then it will take visitors another 50 minutes to go from Lao Cai to Sa Pa by cars. By this means of transport, travelers are able to enjoy beautiful terraced fields of local residents on the way to the townlet. Once coming to Sa Pa, tourists can hire bikes to travel around villages or neighboring areas.
