Hoi An ancient town located in Quang Nam province is 950 km from Ho Chi Minh City and 775 km from Ha Noi Capital. It is accessible by roads, airways and railways. However, tourists have to go to airports and stations that are nearest Hoi An as there haven't got any of those facilitation there. It is advisable for visitors to arrive at Da Nang by planes or trains since it is only at 28 km distance from Hoi An.

By airplane:

From Ho Chi Minh City:

Tourists can take flights departing from Tan Son Nhat Airport in HCMC to Da Nang Airport, then catching buses or taxies to reach Hoi An. There are 3 flights/ day and it takes about 1 hour 10 minutes flying. The airports nearest Hoi An are ones at Da Nang, Hue, Nha Trang.

From Ha Noi:

Everyday, there are 3 flights from Noi Bai Airport in Ha Noi City to Da Nang Aiport within 1 hour 10 minutes. After arriving at Da Nang, visitors can use buses or taxies to get to the ancient town.

By train:

Everyday, there are trains departing from Ho Chi Minh to Ha Noi (and vice versa) and stopping off at Tam Ky and Da Nang Stations which are the two nearest ones to Hoi An. Passenger can then get to Hoi An by taxi or bus from Da Nang (1hour) or from Tam Ky (about 2 hours).

Train to Tam Ky Station:

There is one express train departing at 19h from Ho Chi Minh to Ha Noi everyday, which stops off at Tam Ky Station. As for normal trains, there are ones leaving at 9h45, 13h30 from Ho Chi Minh to Ha Noi.

Train to Da Nang Station:

There are express trains departing at 15h, 19h, 23h from Ho Chi Minh to Ha Noi stopping off at Da Nang Station everyday. Besides, there are also normal trains at 9h45, 13h30 from Ho Chi Minh to Ha Noi halting at Da Nang.

It is strongly recommended that passenger take a train to Da Nang Station rather than Tam Ky as everyday there are more trains departing from Ha Noi / Ho Chi Minh to Da Nang (including the express train) and these trains provide better service quality.

By bus & coach:

From Da Nang:

As Da Nang is only 25 km from Hoi An, it is very convenient to go there. Tourists can take a bus at streets in Da Nang such as Hung Vuong, Ong Ich Khiem, Nguyen Thi Minh Khai, etc to visit Hoi An. There is a departure of a bus to Hoi An every one hour.

From Ho Chi Minh City:

All coaches to Northern provinces pass Quang Nam-Da Nang. Tourists in HCMC can buy tickets at Mien Dong coach station to go to Hoi An. There is a coach departing every one hour. It takes about 22 hours to go from HCMC to the ancient town.

Passengers want to visit Hoi An from other northern or southern cities can book an open tour (high quality coach, bus and service). Some popular open tour operators are Sinh Cafe, An Phu, Phuong Trang, Mai Linh...
