Dong Xuan Market

Dong Xuan Market is the largest wholesale market located in the Old Quarter of Ha Noi. It is a busy trade center that has attracted locals and foreigners alike. There were two small markets in the Old Quarter, one next to Cau Dong Pagoda on Hang Duong street and the other next to Bach Ma Temple on Hang Ma street. In 1889, after To Lich River and Thai Cuc Lake were filled, those two markets were cleared away by the French city planners to form a new one named Dong Xuan Market in Dong Xuan Ward, Hoan Kiem District.

The market now mainly supplies electronic products, home appliances, garments and fabric. There are also pet animals sold along the back wall of the market. Goods in Dong Xuan are transported through provinces in the north; therefore, it is always crowded and bustling. Besides, it is the appearance of a night market in recent years that has drawn more visitors to the Old Quarter.

As a biggest and oldest market of the capital, Dong Xuan market plays an important role for transaction activities in Ha Noi.
